these shoes weren't made for walkin'

Definitely my favorite project for this class all semester. I had to recreate a pair of my Dexter boat shoes by only using masking tape. Once again, this project sounded fairly easy and once again, I was proven wrong. I first made a paper replica and then started the masking tape part. I tried to examine each part of the shoe and break it down as to how it would have been built in the factory. I started with the sole and worked my way up. I used the x-acto knife for the details like the stitching, string holes, and the brand of the shoe, Dexter, etched on the bottom and inside of the shoe. I could even put them on my feet and walk around. The shoe fit!

cut myself.
all bandaged up.

such a secret.

tedious.

which one is real? ha!
fin.
if the shoe fits

Make It Roll

Make it roll, sounds easy enough. Just get some cardboard and shape it into some type of circular object. How hard could it be? Ohh, very hard, for me at least. I wanted to do something different and unique but try to make it the best. I started off with a good idea but had a couple malfunctions that I should of tweaked. My mini version rolled great of course, but when I started to make it larger, I realized how difficult it would be.

I was going to create a bunch of half circles and glue the straight side of them to a center piece of cardboard that would be circular. Well the center piece would have to be pretty small and the cardboard was very hard to bend that tight. I ended up attempting to glue the flat edges to each other but started to run out of space. Then i got the idea to build little bridges in-between the half circles. These had two purposes. One, Keep the half circles evenly spaced, and two, fill in the gaps so the cardboard ball does not get stuck on them. Well what I forgot was to make the bridges line up with the outside edges of the circles. My ball rolled a little but did exactly what I did not want it to do, got stuck in the gaps.

It was very interesting to see everyone's ideas and if they worked or not. I think I just put too much thought into it and should of kept it simple, like the cardboard ball that won. I learned a lot about construction and space.

only way to hold it all together.

soo much glue.

test roll somehow worked.
mini one. this one rolled just fine.
